The French economy suggests that is best to find products that are not produced in the country since whatever France does produce is usually of a high enough quality to match anything coming from outside. This is especially true when it comes to modern technology related items. It is also known for its fine dining culture and there are small openings in this industry for an importer.

France is also the seat of high fashion and this is a very demanding industry. It demands the finest quality and highest order of craftsmanship. Even though that sounds like another closed industry, it is actually an industry that imports a lot good every year.

It imports fabrics, designs and hand crafted items that are not available in France. This is mostly because these are highly specific items that are available only in one or two places in the entire world. For example, fashion designers often use embroidered items imported from India. It is a specific kind of embroidery that only artisans in specific parts of India can produce. Similarly, certain kinds of silk can only taken from special regions in China and others from certain regions in India. That should give you a fair idea of what the industry can be like.

For finding other niches that need imported items, look closely at the apparently closed markets. For example, it very likely that the hospitality sector requires something or the other that needs to be imported. It is also possible that the medical and natural medicine industry also requires items that can only be obtained through import.
