A Fire Risk Assessment looks at all possible fire hazards and risk scores them. These are called Significant Findings. In turn you should then look to reduce the likelihood of a risk occurring and reduce the consequence should it happen.

Following the principles of prevention should help you:

    * avoiding risks;
    * evaluating the risks which cannot be avoided;
    * combating the risks at source;
    * adapting to technical progress;
    * replacing the dangerous by the non-dangerous or less dangerous;
    * developing a coherent overall prevention policy which covers technology, organisation of work and the influence of factors relating to the working environment;
    * giving collective protective measures priority over individual protective measures; and
    * giving appropriate instructions to employees.

This is produced as a general guide designed to help you understand the Fire Safety Order as well as the Risk Assessment process. It is by no means a comprehensive guide! Adam
