Why Put London On Tap?There is a new wave of tap water enthusiasts which has been beckoned in the by the ever-increasing environmental concerns. It is now considered the duty of any good citizen to take responsibility for the well fare of the environment. Expec to be positively frowned upon if you admit to not recycling and if you take regular baths or fill up the kettle with more water than you strictly need. It has become fashionable to fight for good causes and to live by the mantra that individual actions affect society as a whole. Drinking tap water as opposed to bottled water is just another way of declaring yourself as an environmentally friendly citizen, and for this reason the tap is drastically overtaking the bottle.
The London on Tap initiative is all about the celebration of tap water, as it encourages restaurants and homeowners to opt for tap water over bottled water. The scheme was launched in February 2008, and has since encouraged retaurants accross the country to supply drinkable tap water to their clientele. London on tap ran a competition whwre various designers were asked to design a 'carafe for london' which could then be used to dispense drinking water to customers. The result of this was a host of beautifully sculpted carafes- that will make tap water palatable if nothing else will! |
