Team Building

Building Outclass Teams

Don’t you want increased productivity, improved customer service, more flexible systems, employee empowerment? Can you do it alone? Of course, you need an outclass team to complete this mission.  We all have seen high-performing teams. We appreciate them, admire them, and get inspiration from them. But we really don’t know the secret behind. After having worked with teams of various backgrounds and styles team possibilities has identified SEVEN key secrets of outclass team.

1.      Focus on the big picture:

We have seen outclass teams totally dedicated to the purpose and values of the organization. Team members understand how their work fits into corporate objectives and they agree that their team's goals are achievable and aligned with corporate mission and values. This commitment provides team the foundation for synergy.

Members of the team are ready to put aside personal needs for the benefit of the work team or the company. All team members can not only see the picture but this agreement on the big picture provides a backdrop against which all team decisions can be viewed. It doesn’t mean that outclass teams don’t face any conflicts. However, when conflict arises, the team uses alignment with the big picture (comprising organizational purpose, vision and values) important criteria for acceptable solutions.

2.  Caring communication

Outclass teams constantly strive to reach their full potential. The members of the team feel comfortable in saying what they think, they ask for help, share new or unpopular ideas, and risk making mistakes. These teams create an atmosphere where team members show concern, trust one another, and focus on solutions, not problems. We have noticed that they teams create an environment where communication is friendly, open, and positive.

Friendly communications are more likely when individuals know and respect one another. Team members show caring by asking about each other's lives outside of work, respecting individual differences, joking, and generally making all feel welcome. Open communication is equally important to a team's success. To assess work performance, members must provide honest feedback, accept constructive criticism, and address issues head-on. To do so requires a trust level supported by direct, honest communication.

Bring Your Team Back On Track

All team leaders expect heroic results from their teams. Teams are anticipated to perform at a peak level in a variety of situations and conditions. Teams are created with the objective to speed up goal achievement. We hope our teams will deliver desired results in an efficient manner. Whether you are a CEO or a leader of your business unit, you too want your team to succeed at the challenges in hand.

But the fact is that teams are not simple. Teamwork is not a one-time thing. Today’s brilliant performance doesn’t promise a glittering victory for team in the future. Would like to know the reason? Teams are fluid; teams don’t remain the same; team work is not automatic; team spirit is not constant; team bond is not immortal. That is the reason why high-performing teams slide down from the victory stand whether in sports or business.

Bringing a high performing team back on track is critical for leaders. As a team-building trainer, I use a range of tools to help leaders achieve this objective.  The most effective approach has been to sensitize leaders about certain behaviors that cause teams to slip.  The process encourages teams (including leaders) to make a strong commitment to ‘SAY NO’ to different behaviors, attitudes and actions damaging the overall productivity and performance of the team.

Team leaders are asked for taking personal responsibility to cultivate a climate of trust, confidence, and openness that once again leads teams to the achievement of supercilious goals.  If your goal is the same, following steps can guide you through the journey.

1. No tolerance for disrespect

Nothing can damage teams more than an environment surrounded by disrespect for individuals working in a team. People can compromise on less money and benefits but not on less respect. Team disruption can easily take place when individual members have complaints about other not showing deference toward them. Therefore it is awfully crucial for the leader to ensure a team atmosphere that guarantees mutual respect and regard. In outclass teams, members can disagree, fight and even exchange feelings that hurt but they never let somebody show disrespect to their team members.

5 Ways To Ignite Productivity, Power, & Passion In Your Team

“Be enthusiastic as a leader. You can't light a fire with a wet match!” – Author Unknown

Isn’t it interesting that we can light a firecracker on the 4th of July faster than we can ignite a fire in ourselves and our team? I had a client recently that complained they were having a hard time generating enthusiasm and passion from their team. When I started asking them the right questions I could see where the breakdown was coming from. Enthusiasm starts at the top. You get what you put out. So… what are you putting out as the leader of your team?

Let me give you a few examples of lackluster leadership:

    * Do you walk in your office in the morning with a ‘ho hum’ attitude?
    * Do you look directly at the person when you talk to them?
    * Do you only comment on their performance when they make a mistake?
    * Do you genuinely acknowledge them for their efforts?
    * Do you preach or teach?
    * Do you really listen to what they have to say or contribute?
    * Do you keep doing the same things over and over again expecting different results?
    * Do you have someone on your team that always seems to have a negative attitude?

Are you starting to get the picture? Always remember that change starts with you and filters down to your team. The old saying, ‘Lead by example, not words’ is still valid in today’s business environments.
